We see strong evidence that operators who front-load MDPE penetration in years one and two of authorisation hit their connection targets two years earlier than peers.

Steel grid backbone planning matters just as much. A well-sized steel ring with strategically placed District Regulating Stations can reduce future augmentation cost by 25–40%, especially when industrial demand cycles peak.

The next frontier is digitisation: GIS-tagged asset registries, SCADA-led leak surveillance, and predictive maintenance using vibration / pressure analytics. Operators investing in these foundations today will set the safety benchmark for the decade.
